B) Ask Adult Reference to create an account for you. Call 812-379-1266. (or)

Once you have a valid user name and password, you can access NetLibrary any time from any computer with Internet access.

2. What equipment is needed? You can listen to NetLibrary eAudiobooks on your computer or laptop as well as many portable devices including MP3 players, portable media centers, Pocket PCs, and some smartphone devices. The one requirement is that the device must be able to support playback of secure or protected wma files.

NetLibrary eAudiobooks are provided in two sound qualities, "CD" and "Radio" quality. Radio quality is adequate for playback from a computer. If you are going to transfer and listen to an eAudiobook on a device you should download the CD quality file. NetLibrary recommends that you select devices that support features such as bookmarking and full time stamping. Also, devices that have a minimum storage capacity of 256 MB are recommended. The average CD quality eAudiobook file size is 140 MB. Click here for a chart of tested players compatible with Windows Media Player version 9.0 and newer.       and
Click here for a December 2007 list of all player compatibilities.

3. Check out an eAudiobook to your computer. The checkout period for an eAudiobook is 21 days. You can have a maximum of 10 eAudiobooks checked out concurrently. You can check out an eAudiobook on a library computer ONLY if you transfer the ebook to a portable device immediately. Library downloads are deleted nightly.

Find the book that you want. Click on "Download this eAudiobook". Choose CD quality (Cable Modem or DSL) or Radio quality (56K Dial-up). Radio quality provides faster download speed, but CD quality provides high fidelity playback. Save the file to your personal computer. (Note: You can download CD quality, even if you have dial-up. Disable your screen saver, begin the download before you go to bed at night, find your finished download in the morning.)

If you have a personal firewall product such as Norton Personal Firewall or Zone Alarm Pro which blocks "referrer URLs", you may have to add www.netlibrary.com to the Trusted Sites list. For Norton Personal Firewall instructions, click http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/pfdocs/2002110811290836

4. Validate the license. After the download is complete, open the file on your personal computer. Follow the on-screen directions to open the file and validate the license. You must open the file and validate the license before transferring the file to a portable player.

5. Play the eAudiobook on your computer. You will need Windows Media Player version 9 or higher to play the eAudiobook on your computer. For a free download or upgrade to the Windows Media Player, click here.

6. Transfer the eAudiobook to a portable device such as an MP3 player. The device must be WMA-DRM compatible. Click here for a list.  Be sure that you have already opened/validated the license on your computer. Plug the player into a USB port using the cable provided with your player. Be familiar with your player's instructions for transferring files. You may be able to transfer directly, or use software provided with your player, or use the Sync List/Synchronize function in Windows Media Player. When the transfer is finished, remove the player from the USB port.

NetLibrary eAudiobooks cannot be played on Macs or downloaded to iPods. Apple products do not support the necessary licenses or the required Digital Rights Management protection at this time.

 7. Renew an eAudiobook. After 21 days, you can renew the license for your eAudiobook. Go to www.netlibrary.com and log into your account. Click on "My Checked Out Items". Select the title that you wish to renew by clicking on "Download Audiobook". Select "Renew Your Checkout for 21 Days".

If your portable player shows that the license has been lost, connect the device to your computer. Click on the saved eAudiobook file in your computer. Let the portable player update.

8. Delete an eAudiobook. When you're finished with an eAudiobook, you will want to delete the file from your computer to free up space. Even after the eAudiobook license has expired, the file will be on your computer until you delete it. Delete the eAudiobook the same way that you would delete any other file from your computer. You should delete no-longer-needed eAudiobooks from your portable player as well.

9. Play eAudiobooks in your vehicle. You may need an FM transmitter to listen to your MP3 player through your car stereo. Your car stereo system may also accept direct input from a portable device. Owners of older car stereos with a cassette player can purchase an adapter. Check with your favorite audio electronics dealer for more details.
